Terms of use

Plain terms for a reference site.

Accuracy

Entries are researched against reference and primary sources, and each one lists its sources. Even so, this is a summary site: it compresses lives into a few hundred words, and compression loses things. Nothing here should be treated as authoritative for legal, academic or professional purposes without checking the cited sources yourself.

Biographical material

Entries describe public figures in their public roles. They aim to be fair and to record contested reputations as contested — including in the Crime & Notoriety category, where the subject's significance is precisely that they did harm. If you believe an entry is factually wrong, tell us and it will be corrected.

Using this material

Text and original compilations on this site are the property of BriefPeople.us. Quoting a sentence or two with a link back is fine and welcome. Republishing entries wholesale, or scraping the corpus to rebuild it elsewhere, is not.

Images may be licensed from third parties or drawn from public-domain collections; credit lines appear beneath them where applicable, and their own terms govern reuse.

Availability

The site is provided as-is. It may be offline, incomplete or mid-revision at any moment — most entries on the roster are not written yet, and that is by design rather than neglect.

Changes

These terms may be updated as the site grows. The current version is always the one on this page.
